HISTORY & ABOUT US

SINKHOLE, INC. is an adventure company that was organized by a group of pioneering river guides who’d introduced whitewater rafting in Cagayan de Oro City. 

Since 1995, we have been bringing our guests to the Macahamus Gorge, a natural formation that can be found along the route going to the rafting docks.  Our guests are guided down into the gorge, where we let them experience and see the fascinating and spectacular thrill Macahambus has to offer. 

This area is very historic for the Cagayanons: this is the site of “The Battle of Macahambus Hill,” a skirmish between Filipino guerillas and the Americans during the Filipino-American War.

After several successful excursions, we soon decided to build a facility geared towards boosting eco-tourism in the area. And when the DENR-10 headed the Regional Eco-Tourism Committee and declared the area as a potential spot for eco-tourism, we took the chance.

A contract of cooperative management between the DENR-10, the local government unit of Cagayan de Oro City, and Sinkhole, Inc. was soon established. We were given a go signal to start construction and apply for all the necessary permits.  And despite some minor glitches, the project started September of 2004 and after four long months, the Macahambus Adventure Park became a reality.

Macahambus Adventure Park was formally inaugurated on December 28, 2004. A simple ceremony was organized with the help of the Department of Tourism –10, where guests from the DENR-10, officials from the city council, baranggays Lumbia & Bayanga, from various government agencies, media and friends.  Needless to say, it was a pretty successful event.

For almost 3 years now, we have been hosts to a slew of satisfied tourists, guests, catered television personalities and celebrities.  We have also been featured in television & print media both foreign and local.  We’ve also been involved in other activities such as the “Cagayan de Oro Adventure race,” sports climbing competitions, and – last but not the least – adventure & caving tours.  This is all in line with our goal of making Cagayan de Oro City the Eco-Tourism / Adventure Capital of the Philippines.
